Flood Wall Street West: Action to Shut Down Climate Profiteers
This morning, hundreds of activists took part in Flood Wall Street West, a mass march and action to shut down climate profiteers in the San Francisco Financial District. The action was part of Flood The System, a decentralized series of actions focused on climate issues taking place over the next few months.
Marchers gathered in Justin Herman Plaza at 8AM PST, before marching down Market Street into downtown San Francisco. The participants were holding many large banners reminiscent of Flood Wall Street, which occurred last year on the morning after the People’s Climate March. A few activists blocked the entrances inside the Bank of the West Headquarters, prompting SFPD to shut down the entire building and make arrests.
The rest of the demonstrators painted an impromptu mural in a nearby intersection, and held the street for over an hour, before being ordered to dispersed by the police. 7 demonstrators were arrested for remaining in the street. There are reports of 15 arrests altogether.
